Why This PlanFAQsCustomer ReviewsRelated Guides

Why this plan?

As a homeowner, the exterior water and sewer lines that run from your house to your property boundary are your responsibility to pay for any repairs should these lines fail - and repair costs are often in the thousands. Lines can rupture due to normal wear and tear, age, tree root intrusions and ground shifts causing:

  • Water leakages in home or pooling in yard

  • Sewage backup in home or pooling in your yard

  • Water or sewage backup in your basement/crawlspace

  • Foundational damage

  • Low water pressure

  • Sewage smell or backups in your sinks, toilets, bath/shower

Unexpected repairs can be both daunting and costly. Our Water Line and Sewer Line Protection Program protects you from these unexpected costs. See above for what we cover.

AWR provides protection from the unexpected. We offer programs to cover the big repairs that your homeowner's policy typically doesn't cover. Since the year 2000, we have grown to provide protection for over 1 million homeowners. American Water Resources is an independent third-party provider of optional home protection programs. American Water Resources is a trademark of American Water and used under license. AWR's optional programs are not provided by American Water or its affiliates.

Your water and sewer service lines run underneath your property. The water service line runs from the water main to your home and the sewer service line runs from your home to the sewer main under the street. Homeowners are typically responsible for the water and sewer lines that run through their property. Typical water line responsibility extends from the curb stop/outside valve to your home and typical sewer line responsibility extends from the sewer main to your home. Your responsibilities may vary. If you live in a dwelling like a condo, please contact your local homeowners' association to determine your responsibilities.

This optional protection covers repairs to the water line for leaks or breaks, and to the sewer line for clogs and blockages.** Covered repairs will be made by local, insured independent plumbing contractors. **Protection does not include a septic tank or the components thereof and other exclusions apply, see Terms and Conditions for details.

Any residential homeowner who is responsible for the water and sewer service lines attached to their home.

There is no service fee for claims under the Water Line and Sewer Line Protection Program.

The Protection Program does not cover issues occurring before your coverage effective date. Your coverage effective date and protection under the program begins 30 days after your enrollment date.

If you have a service line problem, call AWR at 1-855-800-5195; do not call your own plumbing contractor. AWR is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to take your call.

You can find coverage information outlined in the Terms & Conditions linked above the program name on this page.

The program covers up to 4 units.

Your enrollment begins the day AWR processes your Enrollment, which is the Enrollment Date on your welcome letter. Your protection and ability to make a claim begins 30 days after the Enrollment Date.

The Water Line and Sewer Line Insurance Policy covers up to $5,000 per occurrence for one of our independent contractors to repair leaks or breaks to your outside water line caused by normal wear and usage, and to refill, rake and reseed areas outside your home that were excavated to access your water line. If a necessary permit requires a public sidewalk or road to be opened to access your water line, we will pay up to $500 per occurrence to cut, excavate and repair the same section of public sidewalk or road, which is applied toward the policy limit of $5,000 per occurrence. The Water Line and Sewer Line Insurance Policy also covers up to $5,000 per occurrence for one of our independent contractors to repair a clog or blockage in your outside sewer line caused by normal wear and usage, and to refill, rake and reseed areas outside your home that were excavated to access your sewer line. If a necessary permit requires a public sidewalk or road to be opened to access your sewer line, we will pay a separate limit of up to $5,000 per occurrence to cut, excavate and repair the same section of public sidewalk or road. Opening and closing any portion of your home’s foundation or slab to access your water line or sewer line for a covered repair is at your expense. Additional exclusions and terms and conditions apply.
