Frequently asked questions

AWR provides protection from the unexpected. We offer programs to cover the big repairs that your homeowner's policy typically doesn't cover. Since the year 2000, we have grown to provide protection for over 1 million homeowners. American Water Resources is an independent third-party provider of optional home protection programs. American Water Resources is a trademark of American Water and used under license. AWR's optional programs are not provided by American Water or its affiliates.

The Sewer Line Protection Program provides repairs to clogs and blockages of a covered sewer line caused by normal wear and tear. AWR takes care of the costs of permits required to excavate and complete covered repairs.

Because sewer lines are an integral part of your home, and they can be prone to problems. Standard homeowners insurance typically doesn't cover them, meaning you're responsible if there's a problem. The Sewer Line Protection Program from AWR protects you from those costly repair bills and takes away the hassle of dealing with them.

Individual policies vary, but standard homeowners' insurance policies typically do NOT cover repair or replacement of sewer lateral.

You can sign up and pay monthly or annually with convenient options like credit card (VISA and MasterCard).

Just complete the enrollment form online or call us at 1-855-800-5195.

Little symptoms like clogged toilets and multiple backed-up drains can be a sign there's a problem. If you see signs, you can just call AWR and we can help determine if there is a problem, and then get it fixed if needed.

When you have a covered problem, call us at 1-855-800-5195, do NOT call your own plumbing contractor. American Water Resources is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to take your call.

The Sewer Line Protection Program is available for owners of 1-4 unit residential properties with a water service line of no more than 2 inches in diameter. Water service lines and/or sewer laterals shared with neighboring properties are eligible for coverage; however, AWR will not cover any section of a shared water service line or sewer lateral that serves only a neighboring property not enrolled in the program.

The Protection Program is for a 12-month term that will automatically renew on an annual basis if you are paying annually by credit card or on a monthly basis. You can cancel at any time.

You can find coverage information outlined in the Terms & Conditions linked under the program name on this page.

Your enrollment begins the day AWR processes your Enrollment, which is the Enrollment Date on your welcome letter. Your protection and ability to make a claim begins 30 days after the Enrollment Date.

The Sewer Line Insurance Policy covers up to $5,000 per occurrence for one of our independent contractors to repair a clog or block in your outside sewer line caused by normal wear and usage, and to refill, rake and reseed areas outside your home that were excavated to access your sewer line. If a necessary permit requires a public sidewalk or road to be opened to access your sewer line, we will pay a separate limit of up to $5,000 per occurrence to cut, excavate and repair the same section of public sidewalk or road. Opening and closing any portion of your home’s foundation or slab to access your sewer line for a covered repair is at your expense. Additional exclusions and terms and conditions apply.
