husband and wife

Congratulations on your new home! This is an exciting time in your family’s life and you’ve likely been packing your belongings from your old apartment, condo, or townhome, and then unpacking them in your new space — or you’re getting ready to. Once you’re in your new place, you’ve got your work cut out for you. Not only is there unpacking to do, but also setting up your utilities, internet service, cable, and so on, and even possibly choosing and purchasing furniture. Any free time you have is going to be occupied for the foreseeable future!

Once you’re all moved in, your thoughts may turn to protecting your family’s new space. If you have a mortgage on your new house, you’re required by the bank to have homeowners’ insurance. This insurance will typically provide protection for fires, theft, break-ins, and for damage caused by weather emergencies. Some homeowners may also be able to enroll in protection for damage caused from earthquakes or floods.

Many homeowners don’t realize that their standard insurance policy typically doesn’t cover things like appliance breakdowns or service line clogs. How can you protect your family’s new home from these types of issues so that you aren’t dipping into your savings account whenever there’s a problem? Frequently, the answer is to enroll in a home warranty.

You may have questions about home warranties, so we’ve put together the answers to some commonly asked ones. Read on to learn more.

Are home warranties required?

Home warranties aren’t required for your new place, but they are something you should consider enrolling in to help safeguard your family’s appliances, your home’s service lines, and also your budget.

What do home warranties cover?

There are a wide variety of home warranty plans available. At American Water Resources, we provide an assortment of protection programs to cover your water lines, sewer lines, heating and cooling systems, water heater, and more.

When you’re enrolled in one of our home warranty plans and a covered problem occurs, simply contact us and we will take care of getting a repair professional to your home to assess the situation.

How much do home warranties cost?

This will vary from program provider to program provider. At American Water Resources, we provide warranty programs for service lines and appliances at an affordable cost, and most customers have the option to pay monthly or annually for their program(s).

What are some common problems covered by a home warranty?

There are a number of different warranty programs available. Our warranty programs cover things like burst water lines, clogged sewer lines, broken down air conditioners, water heaters that no longer heat your water, problems with your electric lines, natural gas lines, and much more.

Are there any trip charges or service fees associated with a home warranty plan?

The answer depends on your warranty provider and your particualr program(s). At American Water Resources, some of our protection programs require a service fee for appointments, but the cost is low and competitive compared to other companies.

How quickly will I get an appointment if I need one for a repair?

If a covered issue occurs in your home, simply give us a call or chat with a customer service representative on our website to get started on the repair process. Our team will locate a service professional from our network in your area, someone who will be able to schedule an appointment for you as soon as possible to get the problem addressed.

Does the age of my home or appliances matter when it comes to warranty eligibility?

At American Water Resources, the age of your home, your appliances, service lines, etc. does not matter. The answer could be different for other companies depending on which warranty provider you choose.

Does it matter which brand my appliances are for warranty eligibility?

This is also something that is determined by the particular warranty provider you choose for your protection program. At American Water Resources, the brand of your air conditioner, furnace, water heater, and so on does not matter when it comes to your eligibility for a warranty plan.
