Did you know that a standard homeowners' insurance policy likely doesn't cover issues with your water, sewer, gas, or electric lines? Find out how enrolling in a warranty program could provide you with the coverage you need.
Gas line leaks can quickly turn from a slight nuisance to a crisis, leaving you without heat, hot water, or a way to cook. These gas lines connected to your appliances may fail due to normal wear or defects, often not covered by standard home insurance. If there's a leak, you'll likely be responsible for repairs after the utility shuts off the gas. This can mean significant disruption for things like:
Valves
Pressure testing
Connectors to gas appliances
Unexpected repairs can be both daunting and costly. Our Gas Line Protection Program protects you from these unexpected costs. See above for what we cover.
*Based on AWR average customer claim information.
AWR provides protection from the unexpected. We offer programs to cover the big repairs that your homeowner's policy typically doesn't cover. Since the year 2000, we have grown to provide protection for over 1 million homeowners. American Water Resources is an independent third-party provider of optional home protection programs. American Water Resources is a trademark of American Water and used under license. AWR's optional programs are not provided by American Water or its affiliates.
It's a program that provides peace of mind from unexpected exposed interior gas line repairs and is economical to fit within your budget. The program provides protection for repairs of leaks in the exposed interior natural gas pipes running through your house as well as the flexible connectors and shut off valves at each gas appliance due to normal wear or defects in workmanship or materials. There are absolutely no service fees, and no 30-day waiting period! As always, AWR will only dispatch pre-qualified licensed and insured contractors to complete your interior gas line repairs. This will ensure quality service and workmanship and allows you to avoid the hassle of finding a qualified contractor on your own.
Over time, normal wear and tear or defects in workmanship and/or materials may cause leaks to the natural gas lines that run to your appliances. The utility company can turn off the gas lines, but you will still be responsible for making repairs to the lines. Repairing these natural gas lines can be complicated and expensive to fix, often requiring the attention of a local, qualified contractor after the utility has turned off the gas.
Standard homeowner's insurance typically doesn't cover repairs to interior gas lines needed as a result of normal wear or defect in workmanship or materials, so the repairs may be your responsibility.
You can pay monthly or annually with convenient options like credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover), check or debit card.

If you think you have a gas leak or smell gas it is very important to vacate your home immediately and call your local gas utility or 911 from a safe distance outside your home. A rotten-egg smell may indicate a gas leak. Whether the odor is inside or outside, do not use anything that could cause a spark, including cell phones, flashlights, lights, appliances, matches and candles. If a leak is detected, the gas company will shut off your service and the affected appliance and/or line. Red tag means that the gas furnace or other gas appliances are not operating safely and therefore the gas company will turn off the appliance and/or line and mark it with a red tag. The tag serves as a warning that an appliance is unsafe and could cause injury, property damage or even death. After the gas company shuts off your service, call AWR at 1-855-800-5195 immediately, no matter what time of day or night. AWR will dispatch a local, licensed contractor to make the necessary repairs. After AWR completes the repair, the gas company will be contacted to inspect the work completed, remove the red tag, and restore your gas service.
The Protection Program is for a 12-month term that will automatically renew on an annual basis if you are paying annually by credit card or on a monthly basis. You can cancel at any time.
You can find coverage information outlined in the Terms & Conditions linked above the program name on this page.
The Interior Gas Line Protection Program covers up to $2,500 per occurrence for one of our independent contractors to repair leaks caused by normal wear and usage or defects in workmanship and/or materials to your home’s exposed interior gas line, the shut-off valve at each gas appliance and any flexible connector that attaches the appliance to the shut-off valve. If you suspect a gas leak, immediately vacate your home and contact 911 or your gas utility from a safe distance.
