When a home’s water service line leaks or breaks, the homeowner can be stuck with growing puddles, a big headache — and major repair bills.
As a homeowner, the exterior water and sewer lines that run from your house to your property boundary are your responsibility to pay for any repairs should these lines fail - and repair costs are often in the thousands. Lines can rupture due to normal wear and tear, age, tree root intrusions and ground shifts causing:
Water leakages in home or pooling in yard
Sewage backup in home or pooling in your yard
Water or sewage backup in your basement/crawlspace
Foundational damage
Low water pressure
Sewage smell or backups in your sinks, toilets, bath/shower
Unexpected repairs can be both daunting and costly. Our Water Line and Sewer Line Unlimited Protection Program protects you from these unexpected costs. See above for what we cover.
AWR provides protection from the unexpected. We offer programs to cover the big repairs that your homeowner's policy typically doesn't cover. Since the year 2000, we have grown to provide protection for over 1 million homeowners. American Water Resources is an independent third-party provider of optional home protection programs. American Water Resources is a trademark of American Water and used under license. AWR's optional programs are not provided by American Water or its affiliates.
Your water and sewer service lines run underneath your property. The water service line runs from the water main to your home and the sewer service line runs from your home to the sewer main under the street. Homeowners are typically responsible for the water and sewer lines that run through their property. Typical water line responsibility extends from the curb stop/outside valve to your home and typical sewer line responsibility extends from the sewer main to your home. Your responsibilities may vary. If you live in a dwelling like a condo, please contact your local homeowners' association to determine your responsibilities.
This optional protection covers repairs to the water line for leaks or breaks, and to the sewer line for clogs and blockages.** Covered repairs will be made by local, insured independent plumbing contractors. **Protection does not include a septic tank or the components thereof and other exclusions apply, see Terms and Conditions for details.
Any residential homeowner who is responsible for the water and sewer service lines attached to their home.

Opening any portion of your home’s foundation to access your water line or sewer line is at your expense but we will reseal and repair any such opening once per occurrence. Excavated brick, standard concrete or asphalt private walkways or driveways will be restored with like material once per occurrence, and other excavated private paved surfaces will be restored with an asphalt patch once per occurrence.
